2018 Blog Posts
My top month of blogging was June because the work we had to complete in June was thinkers key and thinkers key has a lot of slides on it that we had to complete.
My lowest month for posting was April and July because I struggled with the work we were given in those two months.

Tuakana Teina Day
WALT: Learning from each other, Learning with each other
AWESOME!!
On Wednesday it was tuakana teina day, tuakana teina means younger to older. Which means that a senior class has to buddy up with a junior class.
Firstly, Ms Fepuleai did the roll then she explained to us how our behaviour should look and sound like. She told us ways of how we were going to help our buddies from Room 3 keep up with our earthquake proof houses.
Secondly, we then had to walk down to Room 3 so we can start working on creating our earthquake proof houses. When we arrived in Room 3 we looked at a slide based on earthquakes, Ms Fepuleai wrote some of the rules we were going to be looking at while we were answering some of Miss Gormly's questions. We watched a video filled with different types of ideas of how we can make our basic house earthquake proof.
Thirdly, we all went outside so Ms Fepuleai and Miss Gormly can put us into our groups. In my group was Savannah, Cheska, Tasi and myself. Our idea to make our basic house earthquake proof was to use four long rubber bands and nine red furry bendy sticks ( Pipe Sticks ). After we finished making our basic house earthquake proof we had to go and tie it onto the playground then Miss Gormly tested it.
In Conclusion, “ we had a FANTASTIC FANTASTIC FANTASTIC FANTASTIC FANTASTIC FANTASTIC FANTASTIC Time ”.

Chatterbox
WALT: Use your listening skills
Yay Chatterbox !!
On Tuesday morning Room 8 students created chatterboxes to make a fun start to our day.
Firstly, Ms Bracey gave all of us one page each from a magazine so we can be prepared to create our chatterbox. After that Ms Bracey told all of us to hold one corner and fold it so it can be a large triangle, she then she told us to cut off the remaining paper and discard it into the paper bin.
Secondly, Ms Bracey said “ after you’ve completed cutting the remainder unfold the triangle and wait quietly ”. Ms Bracey gave us the next instruction which was to fold four corners to the middle of the square. She then told us to flip over our chatterbox and repeat the same thing we did on the step before we had to flip over our chatterbox.
Thirdly, chatterboxes are used to test people in asking them questions they get. In order to complete making a chatterbox you have to write numbers on it and then write questions on the inside so someone can answer it if they get it.
Lastly, we had to fold the chatterbox in half and then our chatterbox was finally completed YAY!! We played with the chatterbox as if it were a fortune teller.
In Conclusion, “ it was so AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING !! ”.

Magic Snow
Magic Snow
Incredible magic snow, on Wednesday morning the students in Room 8 worked on a science experiment based on creating magic snow.
Firstly, Ms Bracey talked to Room 8 students about history that happened in the past at New World. After Ms Bracey talked about history she showed us a little packet with the logo magic snow on it, she read the WARNING on the back of the packet written in red so we wouldn’t try to eat the magic snow. In the packet was a powdery product called polymer, polymer is something some companies use to put in diapers.
Secondly, Ms Bracey gave each table a small transparent plastic cup with one scissor and also one packet of polymer. We used the scissor to cut open the packet of polymer then we poured the polymer into the small transparent plastic cup. We then waited patiently for Ms Bracey to give each table ½ a cup of cold tap water. We were very excited to tip the cold tap water into the polymer.
Lastly, When Ms Bracey gave each table a cup of cold tap water we were finally allowed to pour the water in the polymer. As we tipped the water into the polymer it started to rise up as if it were a puffy ball.

Picture Key: Narrative - Monkey
WALT: What could be happening in these pictures? Come up with a thoughtful and creative story for each picture.
The Monkey that flew to space
There once was a monkey named Albert he wanted to fly into space.
Once upon a time there was a monkey named Albert who wanted to fly into space, so he made a plan to sneak out one day and fly to space, he started building a rocket that he could use to fly into space. After waiting for weeks and days to past the day he had been waiting for came, he waited until night time to sneak out he was so excited to experience what it would feel and look like in space.
Albert sneaked out the garage silently so his owner would not hear him, of he went into his homemade rocket. After 17 minutes he got his rocket set up and ready to go into space he was so excited that he even made himself a space suit only for monkeys because in his times there were only suits just for humans. As he listened to his guider he put on his suit so when he got into space he could fly around but not just in a rocket in the outer space, he was so hyped that he even flew around in the rocket and forgot about what his guider told him to do if he went offline. A few minutes after Albert made into space, he and his guider searched for somewhere to park they flew to the moon and parked on it . Albert got out and connected his suit to the rocket so he wouldn't get lost in space, as he started exploring around in space he thought his owner would go to him but he wasn't there Albert didn't really want his owner to be worried about him so he just explored space for one hour then went back. As he went back his guider was online for about 7 minutes but went offline.
Albert was so worried he was panicking a lot but luckily he remembered that he put a poster saying "if your guider has went offline read these instructions to take you back home". He so happy that he put that poster there, so he read the instructions very carefully and did as it said. When he made it back home he ran to his bed very quickly os his owner wouldn't notice that he was gone. His owner came and checked on him then left to go and sleep.
Albert learnt that he shouldn't do things without permission because things can go wrong.

The two Cats and Moving Pizzas in space
There once was a cat that wanted explore space.
Long long long ago, was a cat named Josephine who wanted to explore space she always planned of going with her cat friend Aliana who also wanted to explore space because they had been learning about the Solar System, they waited for days to past until they could sneak out quickly. Soon came the right day to sneak out because both their owners went on a double date and left Josephine with Aliana at home to rest. They sneaked out very quickly because they didn’t know when their owners would return home.
About 20 minutes later they made it to the rocket, they were so excited to see what it feels like to be in actual space. They listened very carefully to their guider so they wouldn't do anything wrong, as the rocket zoomed high up into space the cats were meowing loudly and happily. When they got into space they searched for somewhere to park their rocket, after they parked the rocket on a colourful planet they jumped out and started to explore the it. The colourful planet was kind of a mystery planet to them but Aliana wanted to go and explore the pizza planets so she left but Josephine stayed, after a few moments later they met each back at the rocket but there was a problem as their guider was taking them back home something bad happened their guider got cut of line because they were in space for too long.
They started panicking luckily Josephine found a book in the rocket the title was "How to fly a rocket back to Earth" they were glad that Josephine found the book so Josephine read the book to Aliana as she listened and did as it said in it. Two hours later they made it back home safely, they made it just in time they ran their fastest to bed so their owners wouldn't know where they went.
The two of them learnt how to fly a rocket back to planet Earth.

Lost in the Forest
There once was a girl named Allison she was a young gorgeous child who lived in a castle.
Once upon a time there lived a girl named Allison she was a young gorgeous child who lived in a castle but wanted to explore what was outside. So she planned to sneak out one day, she packed some snacks and some drinks to take with her on her journey. After weeks went past the day had come her one and only chance to discover what was missing in her life.
She tipped toed out the door very quietly so her parents wouldn’t hear her because her parents would expect that shes sleeping. She walked around with happiness, but then she got tired as she walked around experiencing what it would be like outside in the wilderness. So she stopped and searched for a comfortable spot to have a nap, when she woke up she had forgotten where she was because as she looked around the place did not look familiar to her. She started to regret going outside and not listening to her parents, she started to worry that she might get kidnapped.
Her parents went to her room and saw that she wasn’t in bed so they searched around the whole castle but she was nowhere to be found, her parents started to worry a lot so they called all their guards to go and search for her. Hours later they found her, her parents felt blessed to be with their one and only child.
Allison learnt about why her parents did not want her to go out in the wilderness.

Our Puzzle Creation
Our Puzzle Creation We created a solar system puzzle
Firstly, we were given a blank piece of enlarged paper and 1/20 of a whole.
Secondly, on the blank piece of enlarged paper we had to look at the 1/20 piece of paper and then copy it onto the enlarged paper but enlarge it when you draw it so that it could fill up the whole paper.
Thirdly, we had to add a lot of detail onto it so that it could stand out. When we were done I thought it would be a mystery to see it at the end when it was put altogether.
WALT: Use specific vocabulary
Challenge: The challenge for me was when I had to try and draw the white lines onto it.

Falakika - Inflatable
WALT:Describe an Experience
What is a Haier inflatable?
A Haier inflatable is like an obstacle course!
Firstly, you will feel like you are in a cannon because you will get spat out of a washing machine. In Fact it will feel pressuring and challenging for children.
Secondly, you might feel like you are diving into a pool because you will jump into a washing machine. You will feel exhausted because you will be competing with a partner.
Last of all, thanks Milan.

Science Week 4: Walking Water
How our experiment works
On Week 4 Room 8 worked on a science experiment called Walking Water to experience new things.
Firstly, Ms Bracey set up the experiment she placed seven cups onto a table then she filled up every first cup with water, she then put kulakula ( red ) food colouring in the first cup of water then engeenge ( yellow ) food colouring into the next cup of water and she filled the last cup of water with pulu ( blue ) food colouring. After that she put three strips of paper towels into each cup.
Secondly, Ms Bracey asked us to predict what we thought would happen, I thought that the primary colours would transfer onto the other strips of paper towels and leave a trail.
Thirdly, we had to go and observe at what was happening to get some information about the experiment and go away then write what you observed.
Lastly, when I walked in on Friday I saw that the primary colours interacted with each other and made secondary colours when the kulakula ( red ) and engeenge ( yellow ) colours merged together it made orange then when the pulu ( blue ) and engeenge ( yellow ) colours mixed together it made lanumata ( green ).
WALT:To use a brainstorm and put them in bold.
Challenge:Put my sentences in the right orders.

Day and Night
How day and night works
We have day and night because of Earth’s rotation.
First, the earth is always spinning on its axis which is an invisible line that goes through the North Pole and the South Pole.
In fact the Earth spins around its axis like a top, this movement is called the Earth’s rotation, the Earth’s rotation is what gives us day and night.
In addition while the Earth is spinning on its axis it also orbits or revolves around the sun. This movement is called revolution one whole orbit around the sun is called a revolution.
Lastly one side of the Earth is the Northern hemisphere and the opposite side is the Southern hemisphere.
This is how day and night works.

DMIC: Time, Minutes and Hours
Last week Room 8 did DMIC, for DMIC Multiplication and Division came together as a group and Ms Bracey put us into groups of four. We were learning about time, minutes and hours. We were given a maths problem with subjects we could choose to add up to one hour. On the paper it said that school starts at 9:00 am - 12:00 am so we had to find six subjects that equal three hours. When we were finished adding our six subjects up to three hours we had to present it and then after we presented it the other groups asked us questions about it. The challenge for me was presenting our work.

Learning to Serve
Last Monday room 8 went to kiwisport, for kiwisport we had volleyball our instructor was a girl her name is Elena if we forgot her name we had to call her coach. She showed us how to do ready position. When you are doing the ready position to do it you have to lean forward and relax your arms in front of your body. She also taught us how to serve the volleyball properly, then she told all of us to buddy up with someone. Then one buddy had to go on the other side of the net, after that she told us what we had to do.
Up in the stars
WALT:Repeat writing an explanation. Focus on sentence control. Continue to use a comma for punctuation.
Secondly in the planetarium there are loads of comfortable chairs. In the planetarium you can see the Southern cross, constellations, how planets move at night and compass points. Sometimes you can even get to see a 3D movie about robots.
Challenge:This time I added a simile.

Falakika - Sgraffito
My sgraffito shows how I drew Mokoia Pa, there was a fortified village that Maori people lived in on a hill. We also learnt about the two previous Panmure bridges but I only drew the Mokoia Pa. The Maori people built their Pa on a hill so they can see when their enemies are coming to attack them. Close by was a river named Tamaki River. In the Tamaki River was delicious fish that they could fish for so they could get food. There was also a volcano with fertile soil that the Maori people used to grow vegetables. There used to be a swing bridge before the existing Panmure bridge but it wasn’t safe enough for the cars to drive on so they demolished it.
WALT: I learnt about Mokoia Pa. The challenge for me was remembering to add a space after a full stop.
